Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on the representations of women that are prevalent in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. She's committed to removing stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at university.
